Race Format

Teams of Two

DGT-Run is undertaken by pairs - male, female or mixed - with it being compulsory for each team to stick together for the entire duration of the event. All runners will be live-tracked and any pronounced separation between runners of a team will result in disqualification.

Gear & Food

Each runner will need to be proficient in navigation and be able to follow a GPS track with an appropriate device. Runners will need to carry all the Compulsory Gear as well as sufficient hydration and nutrition for the entire event.

Aid Station

The Aid Station will be at White Church Crossing on the Sani-Mokhotlong road at 160km.

This will be the ONLY official facility supplying hot meals as well as a full range of hydration, nutrition and athletes’ personal drop bags.

Personal Seconding

Seconding is permitted at the Aid Station at the White Church Crossing. No other personal seconding will be permitted and any pair obtaining seconding elsewhere on the course will be disqualified.

Lesotho is an extreme and remote environment and the Race Organisers cannot run the risk of having athletes’ crew getting lost, stranded or facing other difficulties.

Details will follow once all final arrangements have been made with the Lesotho Authorities.

Withdrawals

There is no sho’t left out of the race…

Except for the vicinity of the Sani-Mokhotlong road, the closest extraction points are generally around 20-30km worth of hiking from the route. If a team chooses to withdraw, they will be required to proceed to the nearest Safety Marshall and follow their instructions.

Cut Offs

The Race will start at Sentinel Car Park at ***. The overall Cut-Off is 100 hours and all Teams must have reached the Finish at Bushman’s Nek Border Post by **** to achieve an Official Finish. There will be three Cut-Offs along the route, together with two Compulsory Medical Check Points.

Cut-offs will be based on time as well as a medic’s assessment of each athlete. A runner may be ahead of the time cut-off but be disallowed from continuing if they fail one of the two Compulsory Medical Checks or if they are found to be lacking any compulsory kit vital for the journey ahead.

What is very important to note is that being cut from the race does not mean your work is done and you will simply be extracted from the route. Anyone denied from continuing the race at Cut-Off 1 or 2 will still need to get themselves down a mountain pass to a place where they can be picked up by a vehicle. This will be a 20km trek with 1500m of steep descending. It is the same route that the checkpoint crew use to hike up to the safety zones and all those cut from the race will hike down together with the crew when the check point officially closes.

Should a runner be cut for medical reasons, their partner will not be allowed to continue the race alone. No solo runners will be permitted on the course at any point for safety reasons.

Please note that all cut-offs will be strictly enforced for safety reasons. Teams are required to LEAVE every check point by the cut-off time and should therefore plan to arrive a minimum of 30 minutes before the cut-off time. If planning a full meal or sleep stop, this needs to be accounted for. Teams aiming to complete the DGT-Run on the 100 hour mark are very unlikely to be successful and we therefore advise aiming for a 90 to 95 hour pacing strategy.

The 1st Cut-off (27.5 hours) and Compulsory Medical Check will take place after Cleft Peak at approximately 57km.

The 2nd Cut-off (57 hours) will take place at the base of Giants Castle (peak 5) at approximately 116km.

The 3rd Cut-off (78 hours) and Compulsory Medical Check will take place at the White Church Crossing on the Sani-Mokhotlong road at approximately 160km.

The Overall Cut-off for the DGT-Run is 100 hours. Runners making the third cut-off but failing to finish under 100 hours will still receive a medal but will not be credited with an Official Finish.
